Huston McCaffrey, LLP is head-quartered in San Diego offering extensive legal services, focusing on the fields of corporate law, employment law, litigation, bankruptcy, real estate law, criminal defense, and wills and trusts. In litigation, we practice a total team approach working with our clients and experts so that together we can take on and overcome large and determined opposition. Huston McCaffrey attorneys serve as general counsel to business and corporate clients and represent the interests of corporations, shareholders, and management in discrete matters and in public litigation. We apply actual business experience and insight during disputes to reduce client risk. We use are significant mediation and negotiation experience and employ multiple tools and strategies, ranging from jury trials to alternative dispute resolution methods, to reach preferred results at reduced costs. As a second generation California native, Mr. Huston has lived in Southern California most of his life. He experienced the business world first-hand working for several banks while achieving his under graduate degree in business administration with an emphasis in finance. After graduating cum laude, Mr. Huston left branch management and banking to work as a real estate broker and to attend law school. While in law school at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, Mr. Huston acted as a mediator for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Chula Vista small claims court. He also interned at the San Diego Alternate Public Defenders office. Mr. Huston was a founding member of his law school’s negotiation team. He was also on the school’s mock trial team. Mr. Huston received the highest grade for many classes including, Professional Property, Wills and Trusts, Advanced Trial Advocacy, and Mediation Theory. Mr. Huston is a certified mediator with scores of successful mediations under his belt. Immediately after graduating cum laude from law school and being admitted to the State Bar of California, he was hired as a family law attorney to handle dissolution proceedings (divorce). Additionally, Mr. Huston served as a substituting supervisor for San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program domestic violence clinic. This clinic prepares and represents clients who, as victims of domestic abuse, seek restraining orders. In 2006, Mr. Huston left San Diego and became a prosecutor for the county of Madera. As the prosecutor in charge of traffic court, he has handled hundreds of driving under the influence cases. Mr. Huston later became the welfare fraud prosecutor and the rural crimes prosecutor for Madera County. Mr. Huston was eventually transferred to become the drug court prosecutor and finally, the lead deputy district attorney for the Sierra Courthouse. In this position, Mr. Huston handled and litigated many cases ranging from driving under the influence to violent felonies (including assault, burglary, hate crimes, and attempted murder) for the eastern half of Madera County. After three years as a deputy district attorney, Mr. Huston returned to Southern California and worked as a senior associate to several law firms in San Diego. He continues to practice criminal law and is an active attorney with San Diego County’s Office of Assigned Counsel. He has broadened his expertise in the civil arena by becoming proficient in bankruptcy litigation and returning to mediation and family law. He also represents business and business owners in corporate and civil litigation. To date, Mr. Huston has taken over ten cases to jury with favorable results. Mr. Huston has evolved into an excellent trial litigator where he draws on his mediation and negotiation skills to bring cases to a swift resolution when possible but is not afraid to take a case to trial, and zealously advocate for his clients, when the opposition is unreasonable or intransigent (or both!). As the lead trial litigator for Huston | McCaffrey, Mr. Huston has. He is currently admitted to practice in the courts of the State of California and all four federal United States District Courts of California. He is active in the community and is on the board of directors for the Tom Homann LGBT law association of San Diego.
Kelly D.M. Combs Born in Point Loma, Mrs. Combs is intimately familiar with all the local communities that make Southern California unique. Her undergraduate education took her to Northern California where she graduated from California State University, Chico with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in sociology. While in law school at Florida Coastal School of Law, Mrs. Combs received the highest grade for many classes including, contracts and adoption law. She was an active member of the American Bar Association, Student Bar Association and Sports Law Society. For several years, Mrs. Combs worked in three Florida law firms that specialized in criminal defense and civil litigation. There she honed the skills necessary to manage and market a law firm. Upon her return to California, Mrs. Combs sat for the California bar and, after passing at the first sitting, worked at several local law firms that specialized in civil litigation, real estate, and bankruptcy laws. Mrs. Combs is active in the community and is a member of the Lawyer’s Club of San Diego. Mrs. Combs brings a superior set of organizational and research skills to the legal arena. Her aggressive, yet friendly, style has resulted in numerous settlements for a variety of civil and criminal cases. |
